Characterization of multispherical and block structures of Euclidean distance matrices

This paper presents some new characterizations of Euclidean distance matrices (EDMs) of special structures. More specifically, we discuss multispherical and block-structured EDMs, each of which can be viewed as a generalization of spherical EDM. We focus on a well-known inequality that characterizes spherical EDMs and extend it to the sets of multispherical and block-structured EDMs. Some related results are also presented.     

Mössbauer Spectra of FePS3-Cobaltocene Intercalation Compound

Abstract

Mössbauer spectra of the FePS₃-cobaltocene intercalation compound were measured in the temperature range of 300K to 10K. The spectra, distinct from those of pure FePS₃, suggest the charge transfer from cobaltocene to Fe-S antibonding orbitals of the FePS₃ host lattice.     

Observation of spatial distribution of laser-induced refractive index change in dye-doped liquid crystals

Spatial distributions of photothermal refractive index changes in dye-doped liquid crystals were determined by an optical interferometric method. The refractive index change of the order of 10^-1, including spatial distribution, was estimated by the described experimental technique. The absolute value of the refractive index change was proportional to the pump beam power, and the diameter of the index distribution was slightly larger than that of the pump laser beam due to heat conduction.     

Controlled assembly of silica microspheres in spherically confined polymer particles by using self-organized precipitation (SORP) method

Assembly of submicron-sized microspheres has received much attention due to its high potential for wide variety of applications. We have developed a preparation method of polymer particles by simple mixing of a poor solvent into the polymer solution followed by evaporation of a good solvent. By using this technique, silica nanoparticles and polymer composite particles were prepared. Preparation of three-dimensional assemblies of silica particles in polymer particles and composite Janus particles are shown.     

Functional Monomers and Polymers. 145. Synthetic Application Based on the Tautomerism of Polymer-Bound Purine and Pyrimidine Bases

Polymer-bound alkylthiopurine and -pyrimidine bases were prepared and used as the polymeric reagents for the reactions of nitrile, olefin, and enone formation. The corresponding low molecular weight compounds were also prepared for comparison. Differences in the reactivity of these reagents were related to the change in tautomerism of the purine and pyrimidine moieties.     

Enthalpically and Entropically Favorable Self-Assembly: Synthesis of C4h-Symmetric Tetraazatetrathia[8]circulenes by Regioselective Introduction of Pyridine Rings

Self-assembly of π-conjugated molecules in solution generally occurs owing to either an enthalpic or an entropic gain; however, designing π-conjugated systems that simultaneously exhibit enthalpically and entropically favorable self-assembly behavior is challenging. Herein, the self-assembly behavior of tetraazatetrathia[8]circulenes is disclosed, which is driven by both enthalpy and entropy. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis demonstrated that molecules of these tetraazatetrathia[8]circulenes form face-to-face stacked dimers with a 1D columnar structure owing to the circularly arranged dipole moments. Importantly, concentration- and temperature-dependent ¹H NMR spectra revealed that the formation of self-assemblies of tetraazatetrathia[8]circulenes in chloroform and methanol is favored by both enthalpic and entropic factors. The unique association behavior is due to the presence of sp²-hybridized nitrogen atoms, which weakly coordinate to the hydrogen atoms of these solvents and reduce the π-electron density of the circulene cores.     

Pyrolysis of Polymer Complexes Leading to Air-Stable Ultrafine Metal Particles Uniformly Dispersedin a Carbon Matrix

New types of air-stable metal-carbon composites which contain ultrafine metal particles (Fe, Co, Ni, Pd, Pt, Rh, Cu, etc.) uniformly dispersed in a carbon matrix were obtained by pyrolysis of a variety of soluble organometallic polymers, macromolecular-metal complexes, and blends of coal pitch with metal complexes at 400-1400°C in N₂. Some of their unique physical properties and functions are noted.     

Epoxidation of Allylic Alcohols with Hydrogen Peroxide Catalyzed by [PMO12O40]3-[C5H5N+(CH2)15CH3]3

Applicatims a Mo- and W-based heteropoly acids (HPA) as a catalyst in the oxidation of olefins have extensively been investigated¹. However, a patent work is only attempted concerning the evoxidatim of olefins with H₂0₂ by HPA²⁾ since the oxirane ring is cleaved because of a strong acidity of HPA itself. Herein, an effective epoxidatim of some allylic alcohols with H₂0₂ by a new Mo-species (MPCP), which was prepared from 12-molybdatophosphoric acid (H₃PMo₁₂0₄₀) and cetylpyridinium chloride (C₅H₅N (CH₂), ₁₅CH₃- C1^-) under two-phase conditions using chloroform as an organic solvent, is described.
